Polish Kraut and Apples

Prep. Time: 10–15 minutes Cooking Time: 2–5 hours Ideal slow-cooker size: 5-qt.
Needed at Time of Preparation:
14½-oz. can sauerkraut, drained, divided *make sure yours is gluten-free to make this recipe gluten-free
1 lb. fully cooked Polish sausage, cut in 1-inch-thick pieces *make sure yours is gluten-free to make this recipe gluten-free
3 Medium tart apple, peeled and cut into eight pieces
½ cup packed brown sugar
½ tsp. caraway seeds
⅛ tsp. coarsely ground black pepper
¾ cup apple juice
Preparation Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients into a gallon-sized freezer bag and smoosh around.
  2. Remove as much air as possible and seal bag.
  3. Label the bag with the information below, then freeze.

    Cooking Time: 2–5 hours Ideal slow-cooker size: 5-qt.

Instructions:

  1. Thaw bag completely for 24–48 hours or more.
  2. Grease interior of slow-cooker crock.
  3. Empty contents of freezer bag into the crock.
  4. Cover. Cook on low 4–5 hours or on High 2–2½ hours, or until apples are tender and everything is heated through.
